video: HOW TO TAKE YOUR IMPRESSIONS
MAKE SURE YOU READ THROUGH THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE YOU BEGIN
It’s important you get your impressions right the first time round, otherwise it’ll hold up your whitening journey. Carefully follow these instructions and we’ll have you whitening in no time.
If you're struggling to do your impressions or feel like you need a helping hand, we can do it together. Head to the link below to book a video call with one of our experts.
step one: WHAT'S IN THE BOX
PURPLE AND WHITE PUTTY Four of each colour: mix one purple and one white putty together completely per impression. We’ve included some spares.
UPPER IMPRESSION TRAYS Two trays for taking impressions of your upper teeth. The upper impression tray can be identified by the piece of plastic connecting both sides. This sits at the roof of you mouth.
LOWER IMPRESSION TRAYS There are two lower impression trays too. Make sure you take both impressions and send them all back in your pre-paid envelope.
A SMILE STRETCHER Pop this in your mouth to help you take super clear pictures of your teeth to send to us.
LATEX GLOVES Keep your hands clean when taking your impressions.
IMPRESSIONS BAG Give all 4 complete impressions a quick rinse under cool water before popping them into the bag. Lift the white tray to find your impressions bag.
PRE-PAID ENVELOPE Send everything back to us to get your Pro Smile whitening journey started. Lift the white tray to find this beneath.
step two: MAKING A GOOD IMPRESSION
To get the very best results from your whitening, we use your impressions to create your custom ProFit trays, which perfectly fit your teeth. That’s why getting good impressions at this stage is so important. Below is an example of an ideal impression…

PUSH A LITTLE HARDER THAN YOU THINK YOU’LL NEED TO. We can work with an impression that is a little too deep, but if it is too shallow, it may be unusable and will cause a hold up in your whitening journey.
MAKE SURE TO CAREFULLY READ THROUGH THESE PAGES BEFORE STARTING YOUR IMPRESSIONS.
check out: MAKING A BAD IMPRESSION
Nobody likes making a bad impression, but in our case, a bad impression could lead to your ProFit tray missing parts of your teeth, or worse – being uncomfortable or unusable.
Below are some common mistakes to avoid:
NOT PUSHING THE TRAYS HARD ENOUGH Tip: Make sure you reach your gum line to get an impression of all of your teeth.
NOT PRESSING DOWN INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE PUTTY Tip: Try to position your teeth in the middle (not front or back) of the rolled putty ‘sausage’ as you press the trays onto your teeth.
REMOVING THE TRAYS TOO EARLY Tip: Get your timer and give the putty time to set. Follow our instructions on the coming steps regarding mixing and setting times.
TWISTING THE TRAYS ON REMOVAL Tip: Pull the tray up/down and out to avoid scraping the putty with your teeth. Ensure you keep the trays in for the whole 3 minutes 7 to avoid the putty being too soft and causing pulls and scrapes which may cause the impressions to be unusable.
NOT MIXING THE PUTTY PROPERLY Tip: Make sure you fully mix the purple and white putties together until they create one uniform colour throughout.

step four: BEFORE TAKING YOUR IMPRESSIONS
READ THROUGH THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU START
CHECK YOUR IMPRESSION TRAYS FIT First step: check the trays fit properly by popping them into your mouth. Ensure you have enough wiggle room between the tray and your teeth.  It’s fine for the tray to touch the roof of your mouth.
Kits come with medium-sized trays as standard. But if these are too small or too large for your mouth, don’t worry. Simply head to prosmiledental.com/my-account to order an alternative size.
MIX THE PUTTIES Mix one white and one purple putty together until they create one solid colour.  If you have any streaks, the putty won’t set properly.
IMPORTANT:  Mix the putties together for 45 seconds.
ROLL PUTTY INTO A SAUSAGE SHAPE + PLACE IN THE TRAY Roll the putty into a sausage shape in your hands, long enough to just fill the tray (not any longer, otherwise it’ll be too thin. Use your fingers to lightly press the putty so it fills the entire tray.
You have 20 seconds to complete this step.
step five: TAKING YOUR IMPRESSIONS

Each impression will take 3 minutes to complete once you have placed the loaded tray into your mouth.
You need to take four impressions in total: two of your bottom teeth and two of your upper. Follow the steps below, and start with your upper teeth first.

PUSH THE TRAY & PUTTY UP INTO YOUR TEETH Open wide and line up your teeth with the middle of the tray (not too far forward or back). Push on the tray evenly until the tray and putty covers your teeth.
Top teeth: use your thumbs to secure the tray. Bottom teeth: use your index and middle fingers to secure the tray. Push slightly harder than you think you’ll need to. It’s better to have a deeper impression than one that is too shallow.
PULL YOUR LIP OVER THE FRONT OF THE TRAY This is important to do, otherwise you won’t be able to get a deep enough impression as your lip will be in the way.
HOLD FOR 3 MINUTES Don’t bite down - just hold the tray in place using your fingers, stay still and keep an eye on the clock. It is important to keep them in for the whole 3 minutes, or they will not set properly.

You know you will have pushed hard enough when the putty starts to force itself out of the small holes in the tray.
REMOVE THE TRAY FROM YOUR MOUTH Move your lip away, give the trays a wiggle in an up and down motion to release. Once loosened, pull firmly down/up, and out of your mouth, avoiding any contact with your teeth.
If youo need a visual aid, head to 1:15 of our how to impressions video at the top of this page.
CHECK YOUR IMPRESSION Compare your impressions with the guidance on pages 5 and 6. If you believe you haven’t got a great impression, you have spare putties to try again. If you’re not sure, still include the impression when you send the others back. Please include all 4 impressions when you send them back.

Rinse your impression in cool water and pop it in the clear returns bag.
REPEAT THE PROCESS FOR THE REMAINING 3 IMPRESSIONS. RINSE ALL FOUR IMPRESSIONS AND PUT THEM ALL IN THE CLEAR BAG.
step six: BEFORE TAKING YOUR PHOTOS

YOU WILL NEED:

1 x SMILE STRETCHER

YOUR PHONE

step seven: USING THE SMILE STRETCHER
The smile stretcher helps us get the best view of your teeth, so just pop it into your mouth and snap away. Taking selfies of your teeth can be tricky. Consider asking a friend or family member to help.
MAKE SURE TO HAVE THE HANDLE FACING DOWNWARDS.
step eight: TAKING YOUR PHOTOS

We need pictures of your teeth before starting whitening to examine the health of your mouth. At this point you can also upload a ‘before’ photo of you smiling so we can track your progress. Come back when you’ve completed your whitening process to give us a gleaming white ‘after’ photo. Please copy the examples below, making sure to capture clear images

Follow the simple steps below to get your impressions back to us.

LOCATE YOUR POSTAGE LABEL, BAG AND PREPAID ENVELOPE. You will find this in the bottom of the impressions kit, underneath a white card tray.
RINSE ALL 4 IMPRESSIONS UNDER COOL WATER AND POP THEM IN THE BAG.
PLACE THE BAG WITH ALL 4 IMPRESSIONS INSIDE THE PRE-PAID ENVELOPE.
SEAL THE ENVELOPE AND DROP IT OFF AT YOUR LOCAL POST OFFICE OR POST BOX. Don't know where your local post office or box is? Find out here.
