If you’re considering whitening your teeth, then you’ve come to the right place.
There are many reasons why you might want to whiten your teeth, from boosting your confidence to simply wanting your teeth to look brighter and lighter on your social media feed.
Whatever your motivation, Pro Smile® is ready to take you on that journey.
Professional whitening can only be prescribed by a dentist. This is very important to remember as there are a LOT of dangerous products on the market which promise whitening but simply won’t deliver because they can’t legally sell the gels you need to make it happen.
Many of these will have little to no effect on the shade of your teeth. The one thing they will do is dehydrate your teeth, making them appear whiter for a short spell before returning to their original state.
That’s because real teeth whitening is achieved with one of two active ingredients that are only available from a dentist: carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. You apply them in bespoke ‘trays’ which you wear in your mouth like lightweight gumshields.
The good news is that hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide both produce the same outstanding results.
With Pro Smile® you can either use one during the day or the other during the night. It’s completely up to you which route you’d like to take. Some people prefer the day option where you wear the trays in the morning and then again in the evening for a short period of time, while others prefer wearing trays overnight while they sleep.
For whitening by day you’ll use 6% hydrogen peroxide gel. It works best here because hydrogen peroxide breaks down quickly. We recommend two one-hour sessions of wear per day, with a gap between applications of at least two hours to obtain the best results.
For whitening by night you’ll use a 16% carbamide peroxide gel, equivalent to 5.7% hydrogen peroxide.
If you suffer from sensitivity, the night option is probably the best one for you.
Whichever gels you use, when you start your procedure and begin applying the gels, something magical then happens. In fact, it’s all an amazing illusion.
That’s because teeth whitening reflects the light back but also alters the refractive index. It doesn't dissolve the teeth, like the unregulated Chlorine Dioxide which you can buy online. That stuff is sold as a teeth whitener but it burns the gums and burns off the enamel of the teeth.
So if you decide to go ahead with teeth whitening, be sure to use a professional service like Pro Smile® or you could end up with serious complications.
The hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide used in Pro Smile® whitening will most definitely NOT harm your teeth.
Teeth whitening is one of the most researched cosmetic procedures in the world and comes with a wealth of evidence to support the effectiveness and safety of the take home technique, if correct protocols are observed.
Another question patients often ask us is how many days their treatment will take to get the desired results - but it isn’t a one size fits all.
It doesn’t even come down to which peroxide you use - it’s more about the individual and their unique rate of tooth colour change.
With all types of teeth whitening products, the results will vary from person to person, and depend largely on the original colour of the teeth, the condition of the teeth, the type of staining present and compliance with the teeth whitening regime.
Teeth whitening is more effective on teeth that are yellow and “off white”. Teeth that are shades of brown and grey are more difficult to whiten and will require a longer treatment.
The most difficult staining to remove is deep staining, which dentists refer to as ‘intrinsic staining’. This can take many months of whitening to achieve a reasonable result.
The usual rule is if your teeth are darker than the whites of your eyes you will get a good result.
And don’t forget: tooth whitening only enhances what you have. The shape and contour are unchanged. Your teeth just appear brighter. Most people can expect to achieve that in as little as three to four weeks.
We’ve seen first hand the life-changing impact whiter teeth have had on hundreds of patients over the years - proving teeth whitening is the best and easiest way to improve and boost your confidence.
