Teeth whitening and composite bonding are two fantastic ways to improve your smile.
Both procedures can drastically change the look of an individual’s teeth, boosting not only your external look but internal confidence.
But if you’re looking to have them both done, it’s very important to do things in the right order.
Failure to do so could see you throwing money down the drain and we don’t want to see that.
Pro Smile®’s renowned founder and dentist Dr Julian Perry explains why it’s recommended to whiten your teeth BEFORE going ahead with composite bonding.
He says: “This is because composite bonding materials are colour-matched to the natural shade of your teeth, and if you whiten your teeth after the bonding procedure, the bonding material will not change colour with your natural teeth.
“This can result in a noticeable difference in shade between the composite bonding material and your natural teeth, which may not look aesthetically pleasing.”
Dr Perry says it’s always best to speak to a professional - such as the dentists at Pro Smile® - before going ahead with any costly procedures.
He says another thing to consider is if you already have composite bonding in your mouth and want to whiten your teeth.
He continues: “If you have existing composite bonding on your teeth and want to whiten your teeth, it may be necessary to replace the bonding material after the whitening treatment to ensure a uniform and natural appearance.
“Therefore, it's best to talk to an expert about teeth whitening options and timing before undergoing composite bonding. We can recommend the best course of action based on your individual dental needs and goals.”
Composite bonding is another way of improving the appearance of your teeth.
It’s a cosmetic dental procedure that involves the application of a tooth-coloured composite resin material to the surface of teeth.
Composite bonding can be carried out using two different techniques: freehand and digital.
Freehand composite bonding involves the manual application of composite resin material to the teeth by a skilled dentist or dental technician. The dentist uses their skills and experience to shape and sculpt the composite resin material to create the desired shape and form of the tooth.
Digital composite bonding is a newer technique that uses computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology to create a 3D model of the patient's teeth.
Dr Perry says digital composite bonding has improved the precision and accuracy of the procedure.
He says: “Because the composite resin material is fabricated using CAM technology, it can be customised to fit the exact contours of the patient's teeth.
“Additionally, digital composite bonding can be completed more quickly than freehand bonding, as there is less manual labour involved.”
But he adds that freehand does still have its benefits in certain cases. He continues: “Freehand can be more versatile, as the dentist can use their artistic skills and experience to create a more natural-looking restoration. It can also be less expensive than digital bonding, as there are no additional costs associated with CAM technology.”
There are several alternatives to composite bonding, depending on the nature of the dental issue and the desired outcome.
These include veneers, crowns, orthodontic treatments and dental implants.
But one of the easiest alternatives to improving the look of your smile is teeth whitening.
Teeth whitening is a non-invasive cosmetic dental procedure that can help improve the appearance of discoloured or stained teeth.
