If you suffer from sensitive teeth, you aren’t alone. Millions of people experience the same thing as you.
In fact, some estimates indicate as many as one in three people are affected.

So it’s understandable that if you’re considering teeth whitening and do suffer from sensitive teeth that you might have initial concerns.

The good news is Pro Smile® teeth whitening is absolutely fine for people with sensitive teeth.

That being said, around a quarter of people who have teeth whitening will experience some form of sensitivity and that’s completely normal.

Dr Julian Perry, the creator of Pro Smile® - the first-ever dentist surgery standard teeth whitening service you complete 100% from home - has worked as a dentist for almost four decades and has a wealth of experience treating people with sensitive teeth.

That’s why when he created Pro Smile® he was adamant about making the treatment accessible for everybody - including those who might have been put off in the past because of any potential irritation.

How to stop teeth sensitivity during whitening

Pro Smile® works for those with sensitive teeth because every professional-grade teeth whitening kit comes with a special desensitising Pro Smile® Biomin toothpaste.
This toothpaste - which works just like your regular everyday toothpaste - comes completely free in your Pro Smile® whitening kit.

Not everybody will need to use it as part of their course of teeth whitening treatment. But for those who want to, the desensitising toothpaste can work wonders at keeping any irritation at bay.

Pro Smile’s expert dentists recommend two distinct approaches to using the toothpaste in addition to your whitening gels.

The route you choose depends on the severity of your sensitivity because we know this isn’t a one size fits all issue.

We also provide desensitising gels in each of our whitening kits which you can use at any point in the whitening process if you find yourself experiencing sensitivity or irritation. Simply apply like you would the whitening gels in your custom impression trays and leave on your teeth for 40 minutes - an hour.

Can sensitive teeth be whitened? Yes, here’s how…

So if you experience minor irritation, we advise patients to use our desensitising toothpaste for two to three days prior to starting whitening treatment, as well as during it. Then, if sensitivity continues after your treatment course ends, we suggest continuing to use the toothpaste for as long as required.
If you’re somebody who suffers from particularly sensitive teeth then the approach is slightly different. Our advice is to use the Biomin® toothpaste for ten days prior to starting your whitening treatment, as well as during it, to really prepare your teeth and gums for the upcoming whitening treatment.

Once you’re ready to start your treatment, we also recommend using your whitening gel for reduced session times to lighten the load. So, instead of 45 minute sessions, we suggest keeping your trays in for 20 minute blocks instead.

This slower approach will obviously mean your course of treatment takes longer, but your health and happiness is our No.1 priority so we’d urge you to follow our advice.

Sensitive teeth and whitening - our expert dentists are here to help
