The best toothpaste you can buy for sensitive teeth is probably one you haven’t heard of - it’s called BioMin®.

It looks and tastes just like regular toothpastes for sensitive teeth but costs £9.99 a tube and is recommended and used by top dentists and hygienists all over the world.

Why is it so popular - but also pricier than the classic brands? Because lab tests have proved it outperforms all other fluoride toothpastes on the market. It’s simply in another league.

BioMin® - dubbed ‘armour for teeth’ - is a revolutionary ‘smart toothpaste’, which means it can react to what you’re eating to defend your teeth and stop sensitivity pain in its tracks.

It was developed by scientists and dental clinicians at Queen Mary University of London specifically for use in toothpastes and dental applications using technology originally developed as a bone substitute.

When you use BioMin® it binds to your teeth to form a protective wall which doesn’t just wash off, plugging the microscopic holes in the honeycomb-style structure of teeth which cause pain and sensitivity.

That’s why it’s ideal for those undergoing teeth whitening - and why every single Pro Smile® teeth whitening kit includes a free tube of BioMin® to apply before, during and after your treatment to ease sensitivity and to reap the benefits of this unique product.

We wanted the very best toothpaste on the market to give our patients the most comfortable teeth whitening journey possible.

But BioMin® isn’t recommended just for those with sensitive teeth. It’s also outstanding for strengthening and protecting your teeth against acid attacks.

For example, when you have something with high acidity, such as a fizzy drink or orange juice - , BioMin®'s patented and award-winning technology kicks in.

What is BioMin® made of?

It might come as a surprise to hear that BioMin® is actually made from a completely safe and edible bioactive glass which dissolves in your saliva.
But don’t worry - this isn’t like the kind of ‘glass’ you think of in your windows or is used for bottles.

These types of glass are highly biocompatible and made up of microscopic particles. In fact, you’d need a pretty strong microscope to even see them as they measure one tenth of the width of a human hair!

When you brush your teeth with BioMin®, the polymer in the toothpaste chemically bonds the calcium in your enamel to the calcium in BioMin®.

This creates a ‘wall’ of acid-resistant fluorapatite crystals to reduce sensitivity and make your teeth stronger.

BioMin® does this by slowly releasing a low level of fluoride for up to 12 hours after brushing - that’s up to eight times longer than traditional toothpastes.

BioMin® is the first toothpaste to gain accreditation from the Oral Health Foundation’s expert panel for both sensitivity reduction and remineralisation - so you can trust that you’re using one of the best toothpastes money can buy.

How often should I use BioMin® while whitening my teeth with Pro Smile®?

We’ve taken the step of including a free tube of BioMin® toothpaste with every Pro Smile® teeth whitening kit.
We believe it’s the best toothpaste money can buy - and is especially effective for patients undergoing teeth whitening.

How much you use it throughout your treatment comes down to the individual - every single person is different.

But we recommend that if you experience minor irritation, you should try to use BioMin® for two to three days prior to starting whitening treatment, as well as during it. Then, if sensitivity continues after your treatment course ends, we suggest continuing to use the toothpaste for as long as required.

If you’re somebody who suffers from particularly sensitive teeth then the approach is slightly different. Our advice is to use the BioMin® toothpaste for ten days prior to starting your whitening treatment, as well as during it, to really prepare your teeth and gums for the upcoming whitening treatment.

Once you’re ready to start your treatment, we also recommend using your whitening gel for reduced session times to lighten the load. So, instead of 45 minute sessions, we suggest keeping your trays in for 20 minute blocks instead.

Obviously, it might take a bit longer for you to reach your desired level of whitening with this slower approach, but it’ll be worth the wait if you suffer from sensitive teeth.
